FAQ

I do not contract with any insurance companies. I can provide superbills for physical therapy services that you can submit for reimbursement. Physical therapy and insurance reimbursement are only available for people who live in California due to licensing.

I strive to ensure my services are accessible to as many people as possible, given my own constraints. I provide services on a sliding scale based on a discussion and agreed upon amount.
I try to include as much treatment and information as I can during each session, to decrease the number of sessions needed and decrease your cost. The average number of sessions is around 4-5 per issue/injury/concern (though this can vary by client preference/need/etc). Many clients return for follow up as needed, or for new injuries/issues later down the line. Please keep this in mind when budgeting for services.
My “going rates” are:
-PT evaluation (generally 90 mins but can be as long as 120 mins if needed): $240
-PT follow up session (50-60 mins): $190
-Charge for in-person visit greater than 5 miles from zip code 94619: $5/mile (for example, if you live 7 miles from me, the charge is $10).
- Pain consultation initial session (80-90 mins): $220
- Pain coaching follow up session (50-60 mins): $170
- Queering Chronic Pain group: $80-$600 sliding scale ($10-$75 per 1.5 hour session)

In person physical therapy and pain coaching: Huchiun/East Bay area, CA. I will travel to your home (or another agreed upon location) for visits.
Virtual physical therapy: client must be in CA
Consultation and groups: anywhere (virtual)

Most people can get a lot out of either, and I recommend that you follow your intuition as to what will be most beneficial for you. Group participants are welcome to schedule one or more pain consultation or PT sessions with me as well.
Reasons you may choose 1:1 sessions instead of group include
You don’t generally do well with group education/activities
Your case is highly complex and you feel that 1:1 would better suit your needs
You can’t make the times of the upcoming group sessions.
Reasons you may choose a group over 1:1 treatment include:
You have already done/are doing PT for this issue and want to connect with other trans and queer people with chronic pain.
You wish to participate in a group that primarily focuses on things you can do to accommodate, get support for, and potentially improve your quality of life and pain
You learn best from stories and others’ experiences more than individualized care

My pain consultation practice falls under the “wellness” category of physical therapy. It is available for folks who do not meet the criteria for “needing” physical therapy services, for people residing outside my PT practice area, and for people who legally cannot access cash pay PT services based on their insurance (Medicare or Medi-Cal insurance).
Consultation involves a lot of the same elements as physical therapy, however I will not create a traditional “plan of care” and we are a bit freer to explore issues that insurance won’t cover. We cannot do manual therapy during consultation/wellness sessions.
-
My practice style is more focused on helping you identify the tools that will help you heal vs manual therapy. That said, I do provide manual therapy when indicated - including joint and soft tissue mobilization, trigger point release, and cupping. Participation in manual therapy is never required for working with me. When possible, I strive to teach you how you can perform similar techniques for yourself outside of sessions.

Physical: For in person appointments, I come to your residence. For virtual appointments, we generally will use video - however especially for pain coaching, we can be flexible about format.
Language: My primary language is English and I am not proficient enough to competently provide PT in any other language. We have some options for treatment if your primary language is not English, including having one of your friends/family interpret for us, or utilizing AI interpretation. I am strongly against the extraneous use of AI and do not utilize it for any other aspect of my practice/life. However I am willing to try/utilize it to make PT accessible for folks, especially if they are unable to access safe care elsewhere.
Neurodivergence/learning style: I strive to go at the pace of each client’s learning style so that you don’t feel bombarded with information, but feel that you are getting the most out of our time together. I generally follow up each 1:1 session with a written summary of what we discussed and my recommendations. For movement, positioning, ergonomics, etc, I include photos/video links. I also strive to provide the tools to support your success with your treatment including handouts that help track your “homework,” etc. If there are specific things you know are helpful for your learning, let’s discuss!

I take COVID and illness precautions quite seriously, for the health of my clients and myself/my family. I wear an N95 mask for every session. An N95 or KN95 mask is required for in person sessions (may be briefly removed for mask breaks or as needed for treatment). If you have a medical condition that prevents you from wearing a mask, let’s discuss how to keep us both safe!
If you or anyone in your household has had symptoms of any illness in the last 3 days (including the common cold, etc) - please contact me so we can either change your appointment to virtual or reschedule.
-
I know that with chronic conditions, neurodivergence, and late stage capitalism, things can change at the last minute. Each client is allotted 3 free last minute cancellations per year. There will never be a charge for cancellation in the case of illness. After your allotted 3 last minute cancellations, please cancel or reschedule at least 48 hours in advance, otherwise please pay the full price of your scheduled visit.
Because I am a disabled caregiver of my disabled child, I occasionally have to reschedule sessions last minute. I ask that you extend the same grace to me as my above cancellation policy. If I need to cancel or reschedule late more than 3 times in a year (this has never happened so far), I will provide a make-up session free of charge.
